James Curtis Monday, age 81, of Brookville, Ind., died Sunday, August 11, 2013, at his residence.

Born July 29, 1932, in Hancock County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Jacob Oscar and Mary (Stanley) Monday. On July 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to the former Bea Gilbert and she survives.

Mr. Monday graduated from International Barber College in Indianapolis in 1957, and started his career at Brookville, Ind., in December 1957 where he worked for 20 years. He then began working in Connersville, Ind., where he worked for 33 years before retiring in July 2010. He was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Brookville, where he served as a Deacon.

Besides Bea, his wife of over 59 years, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth (Kevin) Waltz of Brookville, Ind.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Alan (Nancy) Monday of Boston, Mass., and Steve (Nancy) Monday of Brookville, Ind.; six grandchildren, Tara (Chris) Mandell, Samantha Monday, Dereck (Josie) Waltz, Mark Monday Jr., Mckenzi Monday, and James Monday; his twin brother, Samuel Carl Monday of Rose Hill, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Edith Faye Monday of Brookville, Ind., and Alma Monday of Rose Hill, Va., as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Lorene Dorna; and two brothers, James A. Monday and Morrison Monday.

His son-in law, Pastor Kevin Waltz of Emmanuel Baptist Church officiated the funeral services on Thursday, August 15, 2013, 11 a.m., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.

Family and friends visited from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
