Not many people think of New Tazewell when they think of fresh ink but After That Tattoo and Body Piercing could be changing that perception. This business has recently moved to the area and is looking to change people’s ideas of local tattoo art.

Jason Smith has been interested in the art of tattooing since he was a child admiring his older family member’s tattoos and has been drawing ever since he was old enough to hold a crayon. For 22 years this art form has been a part of his life and has earned him the nickname “Hippie” by his regular tattoo clients and friends.

The business opened its doors in July and has many different things to offer. Smith, the artist and owner of the shop only does custom work which involves fine line techniques, shading, cover-up work and just about anything else you can imagine.

“That’s what we’re trying to sell here is different. It’s much more challenging to do something that you draw off the fly,” said Smith.

Also employed at the shop is licensed piercer Chris Marsee who has been piercing for many years. “He can pierce just about anything so if there’s any microdermals or piercings, Chris is your guy,” said Smith.

Tattoos start at a minimum of $40 and larger pieces are $100 per hour. Piercings start at $20. For more information about the business and examples of their work, see their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/afterthatattoo.
