Shooting at Knox leaves 1 dead

A shooting on Friday in Knox County leaves one man dead. Randy Shane Maybery was shot and killed during an altercation with a neighbor. He was allegedly seen breaking into a vehicle.

Friday the Kentucky State Police at Post 10 received a call at approximately 12:07 a.m. from Knox County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance on Morris Lane in reference to a shots fired complaint.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that Maybery, 30, of Barbourville, had been seen breaking into a vehicle at a residence on Morris Lane. The neighbor contacted 911 and the homeowner of the residence to inform him of the perpetrator.

Police also said, both the neighbor and homeowner obtained personal firearms and approached the perpetrator who then fled on foot. A short distance later, an altercation took place between the neighbor and perpetrator. A shot was fired by the neighbor striking Maybery.

Maybery was taken to the Knox County Hospital and was pronounced deceased by Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins. The body has been sent to State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. This case is still under investigation by KSP Det. Bryan Johnson, who is also being assisted by Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

At this time, no arrest has been made. The evidence and statements will be presented to the Knox County Grand Jury.

Names of the homeowner and neighbor were not released by police.
