The Upper Room Church had their first service Sunday at 6 p.m.

Through just 10 short weeks of renovation the pastor and members of the congregation have made a complete turnaround of the Old Nazarene Church. Construction included a new paint job, sound system and awning installation, as well as a renovation of the adjacent building which will house youth events.

Previously, the church sat vacant for more than five years until funds were raised through the Upper Room’s main location in Corbin for the renovation and purchase of the Winchester Avenue location in Middlesboro.

The church, a work in progress, hopes to add many more events to the calendar, including the incorporation of a mid-week service and youth group.

“I felt we were supposed to do a church in Middlesboro and this is the Lord’s time to make it work,” said Pastor Mark Gilbert.

Upper Room welcomes all in the area to their first service this weekend as a full gospel, nondenominational church. To contact the church or for more information about upcoming events, look up the Upper Room on Facebook or call 606-526-7283.
