With thousands of yards of quality fabric, countless sewing notions, special order bolts and commercial quilting Cosby Fabrics and Crafts has the Tri-State’s sewing needs covered. The business was opened in 1998 by Dennis and Jeanette Cosby and they have been aiming to please customers ever since.
Originally the business was mainly fabrics for clothing and quilting but recently the Cosbys have added a machine quilter which can be used to quilt any prefabricated or home-sewn quilt top. Along with years of practice doing machine quilting, Jeanette also runs the store by herself.
The Cosbys noticed that the clothing fabric portion of their store wasn’t as successful as they’d hoped so they chose to start the machine quilting section. They also removed the silks and sheer fabrics and made more room for cotton quilting and craft style fabrics.
“The economy has really slowed business down. There’s no impulse buying like there used to be when we first opened,” said Cosby.
To help remedy the effect of the bad economy on their business the Cosbys have lowered their prices to the bare minimum. “What I’ve done is passing the savings along to customers so they can be able to afford it,” said Cosby. She also attributes her businesses success to the returning customers and the friendly service she offers.
Cosby Fabric and Crafts is located at 662 Patterson Road in Harrogate. They are open Monday through Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm and can be reached at 423-869-5599.
