Bell County saw four players reach double figures on Tuesday as they came from behind to pull out a 60-53 win over Williamsburg. It was the sixth straight victory for the Bobcats.
Senior guard Tyler Potter led Bell with 15 points while Zach Partin added 14, Jake Patterson 13 and Josh Asher 11. Sophomore Chase Woolum contributed seven points, including five big free throws in the fourth quarter.
Williamsburg got 23 points from senior Dalton Sizemore and 17 from junior Corey Shleton. Andrew Griffith added eight as the Yellow Jackets hit 8 3-pointers in the game.
Those 3s were falling early as Sizemore hit two and Shelton and Griffith hit one each in the first period. Sizemore scord eight of his points in the period and Shelton added seven as the Jackets took an 18-14 lead after one quarter. Bell County got five points from Potter, four from Patterson, a 3 from Asher and a basket from Partin to stay within four points.
The second period saw Patterson step up and score seven points for the Bobcats, including a 3-for-4 effort from the free throw line. Asher and Partin scored four points apiece and Woolum added a basket as Bell pulled even at 31 by halftime. Williamsburg got 3-pointers from Eric poore and Shelton and a three-point play from Sizemore in the quarter.
Potter scored five of his points in the third quarter, including a 3, and Bell County also got four points from Partin and baskets from Patterson and Asher to take a 44-43 lead. Sizemore scored seven points in the period to keep Williamsburg close.
A two and a three from Potter along with two baskets from Partin helped the Bobcats open up a bit of a cushion in the fourth quarter. Shelton scored five points for the Jackets and Sizemore hit a 3, but Woolum hit five of six free throws down the stretch as Bell County went on to win it by seven.
Bell County (6-2) is off until Dec. 27-30 when they head to Montgomery County for the Gateway Classic. They’ll open the tournament against the hosts on Dec. 27.
Williamsburg (2-3) plays at Jellico, Tenn., on Friday.
