State park restaurant temporarily closed

Staff Report

January 10, 2014

The restaurant at Pine Mountain State Resort Park is temporarily closed because of water issues related to the recent cold temperatures.

No food service is available at the park. However, lodge rooms and cottages remain open at the park.

Leaky pipes occurred inside the restaurant and kitchen area as a result of the arctic temperatures that swept across the region earlier this week.

“As a result we had to turn the water off, so we can’t keep the restaurant open,” said Gil Lawson, spokesman for the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet which oversees the state park system.

Lawson said he didn’t know the extent of any damage.

Also, the Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is temporarily closed as well due to a lack of water in the wake of the severe cold weather. The Greenup County Park cannot get additional water because of waterline breaks in the area. The park is closed until water service can be restored.

The Kentucky State Park System is composed of 49 state parks plus an interstate park shared with Virginia. The Department of Parks, an agency of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, operates 17 resort parks with lodges — more than any other state.
