HARROGATE, Tenn —It was all systems go for the Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers on Tuesday. They raced out to a big lead and all 12 players scored at least one point in a 56-16 win over Hancock County.

“We kind of new what the situation was and I just wanted them to come out and learn to be focused no matter who the competition is. Just do what we do and try to do it the best we can,” Cumberland Gap coach Dennis Cline said. “The last ten days or so we’ve been working on being ready to play as soon as we hit the floor. And they did that, they were ready to roll.”

Senior guard Chelsea Fultz hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter, Genna Lake and Tessa Brooks added five points each and Chelsea Bingham four with a Brooks layup giving CGHS a 20-2 lead.

The Lady Panthers were coming off a 40-point loss to Grainger, and Cline substituted heavily from the first quarter on.

“We’ve been on both ends of the spectrum and we know what it’s like to be on the other end,” he said. “I thought all the kids played hard and that’s all I can ask and what we’re striving for. We just want to keep getting better.”

Fultz finished with nine points to lead Cumberland Gap while Brooks, Lake and Amber Craig added seven each. Candace Beeler and Rachel Kimbrough both scored six points off the bench.

Hancock managed just a Destinee Moon basket in the first quarter and a Lakin Sexton free throw in the second as the Lady Panther lead grew to 36-3 by halftime. Craig hit a 3-pointer and scored five of her points in the second period while Kimbrough and Beeler added four points each.

Sexton scored seven points in the second half to finish with eight to lead the Lady Indians.

Cumberland Gap (4-18) returns to action at Claiborne on Friday before closing out the regular season with home games against Oneida on Saturday and Scott on Monday.
