BARBOURVILLE — KCEOC Community Action Partnership is excited to announce free tax preparation through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for taxpayers who qualify. The VITA Program generally offers free tax help to people who make $52,427 or less and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.
KCEOC will be hosting “Super Friday Tax Day” on Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the KCEOC’s central office (located in Gray) for Knox and surrounding counties. KCEOC VITA volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the program, the EITC and to complete and file taxes to clients.
KCEOC sponsors IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities.
These community volunteers will file taxes free of charge to qualifying taxpayers and review all of the details of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The staff also can determine if clients have eligible for the EITC during the past three years and help file amended tax returns for any years in which the opportunity to claim EITC benefits were missed.
The volunteers can also determine help with special credits, such as Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. Free electronic filing (e-file) will be available for faster returns.
This year, working families with three or more children and an income less than $52,427 (if married and filing a joint return) may be eligible for a maximum Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) of $6,143. The IRS estimates that as many as 20 percent of taxpayers eligible for the EITC do not claim it.
Filers must bring the following documents to their appointment:
*Photo ID and social security card for each person on the return
*All W-2 and/or 1099 forms
*Payments for child care expenses (plus name, address, EIN, or SSN of child care provider)
*Form 1098-T (if applicable)
*Student loan interest paid in 2013
*Mortgage and property tax information
*Routing and account information for direct deposit
*Copy of your 2012 tax return (if available)
All services are provided with the strictest confidentiality and accuracy of information.
The VITA program is available free to the public and will remain open through April 11th, 2014. Appointments are required and can be made by calling KCEOC Community Action Partnership at 606-546-3152.
