Claiborne County Animal Shelter will be holding their annual Doggie Dash at Lincoln Memorial University on Friday.
This event will include a 5K run with your dog, a fun walk, a costume contest, pet photography, face painting and homemade dog treats. There will also be informational booths about projects and organizations from community partners.
Funds raised from the event will mainly benefit the shelter’s puppy transport in which volunteers take puppies from the area to cities in the northeast and Ohio. There is a denser population in many of the areas where the puppies are taken so there is a higher demand.
LMU’s Student Osteopathic Medicine Association has planned the fourth year of the Doggie Dash as a way to help the animals of Claiborne County and the surrounding area. The first year the organization raised over $3,200 for the shelter and they’re hoping to make this year better than ever.
“There’s not always a happy ending for the animals, but we want to give them more of a chance. This is how we can help and I think we make a big impact,” said Debra Lai, volunteer coordinator of SOMA at LMU’s DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The entrance fee is $20 before Friday and $25 on the day of the race which will not only benefit the shelter, but will also pay for a T-shirt. To participate you can sign up online at http://alumni.lmunet.edu/2014doggiedash
