Heavy winds caused damage in Harrogate on Monday afternoon. This billboard along Hwy. 63 at the southwest corner of the walking trail at Harrogate City Park was blown apart with the middle section coming to rest about half a mile away on the other side of the highway. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the Harrogate area after spotting a tornado on their Doppler radar at around 3:06 p.m. on Monday. Eye witnesses reported seeing a funnel cloud travel northeast through the Shawanee area and into Virginia. Damage was also reported on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University, where on-campus students were sent to the bottom levels of their dorms. As a safety precaution most schools in the area went on lockdown and held their students until the storm warnings had passed by around 4 p.m.
