Heavy rains during the 2013 swimming season might have kept some away from the New Tazewell Municipal Park pool. However, city officials have begun a major project to completely revamp the popular summer play spot in anticipation of better weather next season.
RenoSys Inc. has been busy prepping the poolside for a total demolition of the concrete apron and kiddie pool. A splash pad will be created where the kiddie pool once stood, officials said.
The old pool liner has been removed so that a state-of-the-art liner can be inserted after the renovations are completed.
A significant portion of the project entails refitting the water system from a chlorine-based to a saltwater-based system.
New Tazewell Court Clerk Linda Stilson said the city is looking at a late April completion date.
The city pool has not undergone such a major facelift since its creation some 35 years ago.
