Educational Talent Search TRiO students from Bell and Harlan counties in Kentucky and Claiborne, Campbell and Scott counties in Tennessee took part in a summer learning trip to Houston, Texas and New Orleans, La. after completing a week-long academic program at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn.


The trip included a tour of the Holocaust Museum in Houston, NASA Space Center, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston Aquarium, a day at Galveston Beach, a Gator Swamp Tour on a fan boat and a ghost tour of the French Quarter.


Educational Talent Search is a TRiO program funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored locally through Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority in Morristown, Tenn.


The Educational Talent Search program is directed by Jenny Collins-King with Sabra Cope, Shane Goad, Jamie Trosper and Cherry Ann Wilson serving as ETS academic advisors in the five counties served. The primary goal of the Educational Talent Search program is to assist and encourage students to pursue and successfully complete a post-secondary education.


Educational Talent Search serves the following schools: Bell County High School, Middlesboro Independent High School, Pineville Independent High School, Harlan County High School, Claiborne High School, Campbell County High School, Jellico High School and Scott High School.
