The annual Great American Cleanup was rescheduled for this Saturday due to bad weather on the original event date.
Organizers still hope for the largest one yet.
The City of Harrogate, Clairfield and Claiborne County will participate in the event. Roadside trash will be collected at three sites: Harrogate City Park, Citizens Bank in New Tazewell and Clear Fork VFD in Clairfield. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Claiborne County, which will pay out at the New Tazewell location, and Clairfield will pay $1 per bag of trash. The City of Harrogate will pay $2 per bag of trash picked up.
Trash bags will be available at Harrogate City Hall, Claiborne County Department of Economic & Community Development Office in the Tazewell courthouse and the Clear Fork VFD.
Last year, over 2.3 million volunteers in over 15,000 communities volunteered to pick up millions of tons of litter, renew hundreds of parks, plant thousands of community gardens, beautify thousands of miles of community roadways, clean up rivers, lakes and seashores and much more.
“Groups and individuals are encouraged to help us make the communities a more clean, beautiful place to live and work,” said Robin Mason, director of Economic and Community Development. “There are several ways you can help - select a neighborhood, park, school or any other site to clean up, beautify or improve.”
