WILLIAMSON - Officers with the Williamson City Police Department placed two women under arrest on charges of receiving and transferring stolen goods valued at more than $1,000, making their charges a felony offense.

Shyla Hairston and Cassandra Wolford, both 20 years old and both of Joseph Avenue, were taken into custody Tuesday night on warrants that had been signed by Mingo County Magistrate Dee Sidebottom and issued for their arrest on Jan. 21.

According to Patrolman J.D. Tincher, he had received a call of a theft on Jan. 8 and had responded to a residence located at 409 Prichard St., where he was informed by the unnamed victim that numerous items had been stolen from their residence, including an HP Laptop, an Ipad, an Ipod, an Iphone, a Nintendo DSI XL, a Nikon Coolpix P7100, a PS3 console, a Super Nintendo console, a 32-inch Emerson television set, a Boss CD player for a vehicle, Pioneer speakers, clothing, shoes, cleaning supplies, a Nintendo Wii Console, seven Wii games, a Leap Pad, an Innotab, DVDs, children’s toys and a set of Paula Dean cookware.

On Jan. 14, Tincher, along with Patrolman J.L. Marcum, Lt. G.P. Dotson and Sgt. J. Hall Jr., took a statement from a confidential informant who returned a portion of the stolen merchandise and provided information that Hairston and Wolford gave him the items to hide because they were afraid that the police would link them to the crime and discover the stolen goods. The items turned over to law enforcement were valued at more than $1,000.

Hairston and Wolford were arraigned before Mingo County Magistrate Pam Newsome and were remanded to the custody of the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden.
