Nestled in the valley of Cumberland Gap is a quaint store and restaurant. The Pineapple Tea Room and Nothing’s Perfect are ideal spots for tourists and locals alike.

Nothing’s Perfect was opened in April 2003 and was originally located next to the Old Drug Store but owner Susan Bain wanted more space to expand her business so she moved to the location which they are currently in. She runs the knick-knack shop with help from her mother, Jean Connally.

She also shares the businesses with co-owner and Pineapple Tea Room chef Brian Gibson. Gibson grew up in Minnesota as a construction worker and moonlighted as a cook when construction work was slow. His experience comes from hands-on learning in various country clubs and venues in Minnesota.

The businesses strive to buy local ingredients for their original dishes at the Pineapple Tea Room and also to sell mostly local items. For purchase at Nothing’s Perfect are handmade antiqued home decor, lye soaps and scented candles to name a few.

She has noticed sales being low due to the economy, but has high hopes for the upcoming season and holiday times.

“Sales are down, but I’m thankful we have this restaurant now. You don’t always need a candle, but there will always be food,” said Bain.

The Pineapple Tea Room is open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and reopens on Friday’s for dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Nothing’s Perfect is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Both stores are located on Colwyn Avenue in Cumberland Gap.

“It’s a blast getting to know some of the locals and even travelers that come all the way from the interstate,” said Bain.
