With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, Middlesboro ARH Hospital will hold its fifth annual Breast Cancer Survivor Tree Lighting Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday in the hospital lobby.
“It is such a privilege to honor our breast cancer survivors during our tree lighting ceremony,” said Kathy Miracle, Middlesboro ARH director of radiology, “We began this tradition five years ago and will continue it for many years to come.”
According to Miracle, all breast cancer survivors in the Tri-State are encouraged to attend the celebration and tree lighting ceremony.
“We are proud to say that many of the breast cancer survivors who have attended our special ceremony, continue celebrating with us each year,” shared Miracle. “That gives us all hope. We also want to reach out to breast cancer survivors who have not experienced our tree lighting ceremony and celebration. We want you to know that you have support.”
Prior to the tree lighting ceremony, Bell County native Karen Collett, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last March, will share her fight against the disease.
Breast cancer survivors will be given a personalized ornament to place on the tree. Once all the ornaments are hung, the tree will be lit, symbolizing hope, encouragement and strength.
The tree lighting ceremony and celebration will be held in the front lobby of Middlesboro ARH Hospital at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Registration begins at 6 p.m.
