Tax rates were recorded by the Bell County Fiscal Court during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
“We don’t set these rates,” said Bell County Judge-Executive Albey Brock. “We don’t tell the health department, the school systems, the 109 Board or any of these folks…their tax rate for them. We simply record these.”
All tax rates were set per $100 of assessed value.
The tax rate for the Bell County 109 Board was set at 3.4 cents for real property. The Bell County Health Department set their tax rate at 5.5 cents for real and personal property.
The Bell County Public Library District tax rate was announced to be 8.2 cents for real property and 8.83 cents for personal property. The Bell School District tax rate was recorded as 53.4 cents for real and personal property.
The Middlesboro Independent School District tax rate, which will be collected by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, was set at 50.80 cents for both personal and real property. Pineville Independent School District set the tax rate at 62.20 cents for real and personal property.
During the meeting, the fiscal court approved the final payment to Hinkle Contracting Company for work performed on the Asher Industrial Park Road. Hinkle Contracting will be paid $947,898.88 when funds are received.
“If you’ve not be up there, you need to go and check that road out,” said Brock. “That is a very, very, very nice road.”
“Now that we’ve completed that part of our infrastructure, we will be able to go after water and sewer money because we are going to have to have those things done in order to get jobs up there,” said Brock.
Brock reiterated that the money used to pave the road could not have been spent on anything other than the industrial park road. He said the money came out of the state transportation budget specifically for the park road.
The fiscal court also approved the payment of $80,585 to Willis Paving Inc. for paving various county roads. The invoice will be paid when funds are received.
