Griffey, Hunter sentencing continued
by Staff Report
Two sentences involving underage victims were continued in Bell Circuit Court.
Jason Matthew Griffey, 30, of Middlesboro, and Adam Scott Hunter, 26, of Pineville, were scheduled to receive their final sentences on Monday.
Griffey entered his guilty plea to several counts of sodomy, sexual abuse and criminal attempt to commit sexual abuse charges in August. At the time his guilty plea was entered, Commonwealth Attorney Karen Greene Blondell recommended a sentence of 35 years in the penitentiary for the sodomy charges, 10 years in the penitentiary for the sexual abuse charges and 12 months in the Bell County Jail for the attempted sexual abuse charges.
The plea agreement was made with the authorization of the victims’ parents and the investigating officers. All the victims were under the age of 12.
According to the plea agreement, from October 2008 through Oct. 13, 2011, Griffey engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with one victim on six separate occasions and with another victim on five separate occasions. The plea agreement states Griffey had sexual contact and attempted sexual contact with a third victim.
Hunter entered his guilty plea in July. He pleaded guilty to first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. The distribution of an obscene matter to minors charge was dismissed.
The amended charge is a Class C felony because of the age of the female, who was under 16-years-old. Blondell said the plea agreement was done with the approval of the parents.
Blondell gave a recommended sentence of six years in the penitentiary.
