RFP amendment holding up hotel project

A possible amendment to the RFP (request for proposal) is holding up progress on the Wasioto Winds Hotel project, according to Pineville Mayor Sherwin Rader.
The new developer over the project is wanting to move the project to the same side of the street as the Wasioto Winds Golf Course. Rader said the developer believes the hotel will be better utilized if located next to the golf course.
Rader said a decision is pending from the state on whether the RFP can be amended. The decision has to be made before any definite decisions can be discussed, she said.
“Hopefully they will have some answers from Frankfort to whether the RFP can be amended so we can know what steps to take to go forward from there,” said Rader.
Rader said a new state tourism commissioner is in office and must review documents.
The mayor said she hopes to hear a decision by the end of the month.
Rader said the project would have to start from scratch if the amendment cannot be made.
If the amendment takes place, it will be the second time documents have changed.
When the original RFP was released, it called for locating the hotel be located where the forestry building is on U.S. 25E. The forestry department was to have been moved to the off-track building, and the off-track business would have been a part of the hotel.
The RFP was then amended to exclude the off-track business. The forestry department would be moved to a new location, and the city would give up a piece of their property in Turkey in exchange for the forestry building.
Rader said Maurice Elledge, who was the only person to bid on the project years ago, still has the memorandum of understanding.
