Lincoln Memorial University School of Mathematics and Science faculty recently teamed up with Claiborne County Schools to provide five workshops with hands-on laboratory exercises and continuing education for science, technology, engineering and mathematics teachers in the district.

The STEM teaching series began in September. Two of the workshops have been completed. The final workshops will be completed in the spring.

The workshops focus on educational standards across the math and science disciplines and cover specific state standards in which teachers have expressed a desire for support.

More than 24 Claiborne County teachers have participated in the program.

The workshops are presented by LMU faculty members with expertise in the topic.

Claiborne County Schools STEM Coach Becky Pearman coordinated the project with LMU School of Mathematics and Science Dean Amiel Jarstfer and Associate Professor Agnes Vanderpool.

LMU mathematics instructor Tanya Noah and biology professor Ron Caldwell also provided assistance in the planning and execution of the project.

Numerous meetings in support of the STEM education collaboration have been hosted by LMU through the Cumberland Mountain Research Center biology department.
