The Bell County Sheriff’s Department arrested 16 individuals on felony drug charges during a drug round-up early Thursday morning.

Deputy Shane Stewart said the majority of the arrests were related to trafficking prescription medication. The department also served one female three bench warrants.

Of the 17 total arrests, 14 were from the Arjay community of Bell County.

“It’s an epidemic,” said Stewart. “They’re (drug dealers) are running rampant up there and we’ve got to do something about it. There are good people that don’t deserve to have to live with that, and we just hope we can help these people.”

The department set out in teams of two Thursday in search of 19 people. There were 20 warrants to be served, but one individual was being held in the Harlan County Detention Center.
