A Jonesville, Va. woman was arrested by the Middlesboro Police Department on theft charges on Saturday.

Marcie Lynn Slayton, 49, was arrested by Officer Josh Burchett and charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property under $10,000.

According to the arrest citation, Slayton entered Kroger, selected items off the shelf and concealed them in her purse. She attempted to leave the store but was detained by Kroger Loss Prevention. The items were recovered undamaged.

After being arrested, a complaint warrant was served on Slayton for the receiving stolen property charge.

According to the warrant, filed by MPD Officer Brad Cawood, Slayton had $1,478.48 worth of stolen merchandise from Tractor Supply in her possession. The later incident allegedly occurred in July 2012.

Slayton was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center. She was released on Sunday.
