A Middlesboro man was charged with second-degree escape after allegedly leaving the Bell County Detention Center on Friday. It was reported by Bell County Jailer Rex Miller that Joshua Green, 24, escaped while being booked at the detention center around 7 p.m.
Green was caught shortly after near the Newtown Bridge.
Originally, Green was arrested by Officer Jeremiah Johnson of the Middlesboro Police Department and charged with theft by unlawful taking and second-degree possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with tampering with physical evidence, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest and second-degree disorderly conduct.
Green was lodged at the detention on two $10,000 cash bonds, according to the detention center website.
In other police news, a Middlesboro man was arrested on Friday for allegedly trafficking drugs near a school. Gerald J. Ayers, 49, was arrested by Sgt. Joe Holder of the MPD and charged with trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, second-degree trafficking a controlled substance and second-degree fleeing or evading police.
According to the citation, Ayers was observed walking west on Lothbury Avenue. As police attempted to stop him to serve warrants, Ayers fled into his apartment on Edgewood Road. Police had to force the door open to arrest him.
Also arrested on Friday was Christy D. Saylor, 33, of Middlesboro. She was charged with 19 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, 12 counts of theft by deception under $500 and one count theft by deception under $10,000.
According to the citation, Saylor attempted to pass forged checks at Walmart and Kroger. One of the checks that were passed at Walmart was in the amount of $539.54.
Saylor was arrested by Officer Chuck Bruce of the MPD.
Other recent arrest and charges include:
* Michael D. Earle, 31, of Middlesboro, two counts of trafficking a controlled substance with 1,000 yards of a school;
* Billy Roy Earle III, 32, of Middlesboro, trafficking a controlled substance with 1,000 yards of a school;
* Nancy Sue Collingsworth, 42, of Middlesboro, second- and third-degree trafficking a controlled substance.
