A pedestrian was killed Sunday night while walking along TN 33 near the Tazewell - New Tazewell city limits.
Around 9:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to a location on TN 33 on the report of a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian, according to a release from the Tazewell Police Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers said they learned a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Larry D. Johnson II, of Tazewell, was traveling southbound on TN 33 and allegedly ran off the right side of the roadway, hitting a pedestrian who was walking south.
The vehicle continued on until it came to rest against a house, the release states.
The pedestrian was dead at the scene when officers arrived, police said.
The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
Johnson was taken to the Claiborne County Jail where he was being held without bond on several charges, including vehicular homicide, driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Several law enforcement and emergency agencies responded. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
