Former reality television show contestant Ryan Kelley is the newest fitness instructor at In Shape Fitness in Tazewell.
Kelley is nationally known for being a contestant on Season 2 of The Biggest Loser. Since her appearance on the show, she has become a fitness instructor for several counties throughout East Tennessee.
New owner Judy Seals recently purchased the local gym and is in the process of deciding what classes to provide for her current and potential members. While doing research for a local Zumba instructor, Seals came across Kelley’s information and decided to give her a call.
Kelley taught two of her Fire and Ice classes at In Shape on Wednesday night as a test run to determine if the classes were a good fit.
The Fire and Ice classes have been proven to help burn up to 1,400 calories in an hour and were designed by Kelley when clients became frustrated with traditional Zumba moves. According to the instructor, she “morphed” Zumba moves into something everyone could love and stick with.
“I developed a class my clients loved and I loved,” explained Kelley. “Something I could stick with for the rest of my life.”
The classes were such a success that beginning on Monday, Kelley will be teaching two classes every Monday night — one class at 6 p.m. and one class at 7 p.m.
Space is limited to 13 spots per class and reservations and prepayment by the prior Friday are required. Those interested can come by the gym and speak to Seals or call her at 423-626-9368. If there is a great enough demand, Kelley may begin more classes or class sizes may be expanded. Kelley has taught classes for as many as 80 people at one time.
In Shape Fitness Center will be hosting a health fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 3. Seals and Kelley will both be at the fair to answer questions and give demonstrations. Healthy food and beverages as well as nutritional samples will be provided.
