Third-graders at Middlesboro Elementary School had the opportunity to write, illustrate and publish their own hardback books. “It shows what ‘real-world’ writing is like, if they want to do this when they grow up. This lets them see something they’ve done and something they’ve finished, but it’s also been really fun for them,” said writing teacher and project leader Kim Saylor. Over 85 students participated in the project that addresses Kentucky set writing curriculum standards including learning about a rough draft, editing and narratives.
