Southern Outdoors opened in the 1950s at its current location of 2089 Hwy 25E in Tazewell, Tenn.

The once full service gas station closed its doors in December 2011 and sat vacant for almost two years. The closure of yet another business in the Tri-State area is a reminder to all just how hard times are right now on everyone.

Thankfully, the staple gas station was brought back to life when Jeff and Amy Trent purchased Southern Outdoors in September 2013.

The Trents still offer the same services the gas station was well known for in the area. However, they have also expanded the business to include selling discount tobacco, carports and portable storage buildings.

The station is the only one in Claiborne and Bell counties to sell 100 percent gasoline — a commodity that many find important.

According to Jeff Trent, the 100 percent gasoline, live bait and discount tobacco are the top three sellers in the business.

“That’s our big three things,” said Jeff.

The Trents credit the success of their newly acquired business to their repeat customers.

The store sees regular customers on a daily basis. The couple welcomes new customers to come in to see them now that the store is under new ownership.

For more information, call the store at 423-626-7388.
