BARBOURVILLE — Kentucky State Police Russell Maynard is investigating an incident where a small child was hit by a car.

The incident occurred on Maggie Cane Road in Barbourville.

KSP Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said a preliminary investigation indicates that Scott Rose, 44, of Barbourville, was operating a 2013 Ford Mustang when he stopped to wait on two small kids to get out of the roadway. Mr. Rose didn’t see the third child beside his vehicle when he pulled out. The 22-month-old girl fell underneath the vehicle and was struck by the back wheel. The toddler was taken to Knox County Hospital then flown to University of Kentucky Medical Center for her injuries.

The child is in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the collision.

Maynard was assisted at the scene by Trooper Chad Gregory.
