A Middlesboro man was placed behind bars Monday after allegedly failing to comply with the sex offender registry.
John T. Burch, 31, was arrested by Middlesboro Lt. Tom Busic and charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration, a Class D felony.
According to the citation, Burch is an absconded sex offender from Tennessee and has been living in Middlesboro for at least three weeks. He spoke with Lt. David Buis at the police station approximately three weeks ago about what he needed to do to register, but he has failed to do so.
Burch was being held at the Bell County Detention Center.
In other police news, Violet Hembree, 31, of Middlesboro, was arrested by Middlesboro Officer Keith Lowe and charged with theft by unlawful taking.
According to the citation, Bell County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Cooper states on April 24 Hembree unlawfully took a .22 Remington rifle, HP laptop computer, AT&T Galaxy IV mobile phone and $1,000 cash from the home of Alex Wilder.
Hembree was also charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and second-degree disorderly conduct.
Police say Hembree was in her yard causing a disturbance while officers were investigating possible prowlers. Officers say she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. She was also yelling and causing a disturbance to a vehicle driving by when officers were taking her into custody.
She was lodged in the detention center.
