A Harlan County woman lost her life Monday in a single-vehicle crash at Tanyard Hill on U.S. 119.

The Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan was notified of the wreck in Bell County at 4 p.m.

KSP Sgt. Jeremy Lee said the preliminary investigation suggests a 1996 Geo Tracker driven by Flossie Smith, 56, of Evarts, was travelling northbound when her vehicle left the right side of the roadway and entered a ditch. The vehicle initially struck a culvert and then ran up an embankment. Once the vehicle went up the embankment it rolled onto its top.

Lee said Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene by Bell County Coroner Jay Steele. The wreck is being investigated by Trooper George Howard.

He was assisted at the scene by Troopers Joey Brigmon and Don Perry, the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, Bell County Volunteer Fire Department and the Bell County Rescue Squad.
