The Bell County Bobcats wrapped up district play with a quick 42-8 win at McCreary Central on Friday.
Peyton Collett completed 6 of 7 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown and Chase Woolum added two rushing scores to lead the Bobcats in the win.
Bell County opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when Collett hooked up with Justin Warwick for a 41-yard touchdown pass and a 6-0 lead.
That opened up the flood gates as Woolum added a 2-yard touchdown run and senior Shane Lawson ran on in from six yards out before the end of the quarter. Collett passed to Warwick for the two-point conversion after Woolum’s score and Hayden Gilbert’s PAT after Lawson’s touchdown had the Bobcats up 21-0 after one.
Senior fullback Jake Barton had a 4-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and Woolum ran in the conversion to make it 29-0.
Before the end of the quarter, Woolum scored again from two yards out and the Bobcats took a 36-0 lead into the half.
Most of the starters stayed in the locker room for the second half and freshman Treyton Humfleet scored on a 14-yard run on Bell’s first drive of the third quarter. The conversion run failed and the score was 42-0.
The Raiders got on the board late in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run from Caleb Strunk. Ryan Anderson added the conversion run to set the final score at 42-8.
With a running clock for much of the game, there weren’t a whole lot of stats accumulated. Both teams recorded six first downs with the Bobcats out-gaining McCreary 207-74.
Humfleet led Bell County with 43 yards on five rushes. Nathan Collett ran the ball three times for 20 yards and Woolum finished with 12 yards on four carries.
Strunk was McCreary’s leading rusher with 22 yards on ten carries and added two catches for 17 yards. Anderson caught one pass for 28 yards and ran the ball five times for 11 yards. Quarterback James Gregory completed 4 of 10 passes for 45 yards and was intercepted once by Bell’s Justin Green.
Senior Ben Collett led the Bobcat receivers with three catches for 62 yards, Warwick had one catch for 41 yards and Andrew Harris took a short pass from Collett for a gain of 16.
Bell County (6-3, 3-1 in district play) is the number two seed out of District 4 in Class 3A. They’ll host Harlan County next week in their regular season finale.
McCreary Central (0-9, 0-4) has been eliminated from the playoffs and will finish their season next Friday at home against Estill County.
