Broken hand ends season for Hilton

Former Bell County High School all-stater John Dudley Hilton will have to miss the rest of the 2013 football season for the University of Pikeville after breaking his hand in last Saturday’s game.
Hilton, a junior linebacker, suffered the injury early in the Bears’ 48-13 loss at Georgetown on Saturday.
His father, UPike head coach Dudley Hilton, said John Dudley broke the hand in three places and underwent surgery to insert screws and plates to stabilize it on Wednesday.
“This will be the first time he’s ever had to miss a game,” the older Hilton said. “I coached him in 56 straight games in high school and then 30 straight in college. I guess we’ve been blessed though, it’s hard for somebody to play in 86 straight games without getting hurt.”
Hilton leads UPike with 63 total tackles this season, including four for loss, and also has a pass break-up to his credit.
The Bears (4-4) will play at Kentucky Christian this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve coached a game without having John Dudley in there,” Hilton added. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do with myself on the sideline.”
