Luke 24 records the most amazing event in the history of man, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Everything that Christians believe is founded on this chapter and its’ parallels in Matthew, Mark, and John. Jesus’ resurrection is given as proof by the Apostle Paul in Romans 6 of our own resurrection. He states in I Corinthians 15 that if Jesus’ resurrection didn’t occur our faith is useless.

This is an amazing claim. Jesus rose from the dead. We’ve never seen this happen. How can someone rise from the dead? Is there any logical reason we should believe this?

There are several reasons I believe Jesus is alive today.

First, the tomb of Jesus was empty. His body has never been found. Jesus’ enemies were never able to produce His body because it wasn’t in its’ grave that Sunday morning. The argument was over what happened to Jesus’ body, never whether it was in the grave or not.

Second, the disciples all lived hard lives and eventually died preaching about Jesus’ resurrection. Why would they do this if they knew it was a lie? The disciples were flogged, imprisoned, stoned, ridiculed, and lived in constant danger. They all were executed for preaching about Jesus except John who was imprisoned in a Roman penal colony. Why would they live and die this way for something they knew was not true? It makes no sense.

Third, Jesus’ female followers were the first to bear witness of His resurrection. Women had little worth in the First Century. They could not even give testimony in court. If the accounts of that first Easter Sunday were made up then why have the least credible members of society be the first witnesses?

Jesus’ was not in His tomb on Resurrection Day. That is a historical fact. The only logical explanation is that He rose from the dead. No other reason makes as much sense.

Is resurrection even possible according to the laws of nature? Our bodies die and decompose. We are never seen again. How can one believe in a resurrection with so little physical evidence available?

I believe there is naturalistic evidence for resurrection. The caterpillar undergoes a dramatic transformation over its’ life cycle. It changes from a worm-like animal into a delicate, colorful being that can soar above the leaves it used to eat to feed on the nectar made by flowers. Who is to say we do not make that same transformation spiritually? We die but our spirits are transformed into something magnificent by God.

Resurrection makes sense. Our faith is not blind. It is based on logic and historical fact. What will you decide to do with it?
