HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) awarded its Student of the Year and Faculty Member of the Year awards at its recent Spring Gala in Knoxville, Tenn.


The class of 2014 selected Dr. Michael Seaman, associate professor of emergency medicine/family medicine and director of the simulation lab, as the Faculty/Staff Member of the Year. The class of 2015 selected Dr. Frank Venuti, associate professor of family medicine, as the Faculty/Staff Member of the Year.


The Student of the Year Awards for the class of 2016 went to Lauren Tehan, of Portland, Ore., and Ricky Kalia. of Cincinnati, Ohio. Tehan received her undergraduate degree in biology from Fairfield University. Kalia received his undergraduate degree in molecular genetics from The Ohio State University.


The class of 2016 selected Dr. Fruzsina Johnson, associate professor of physiology, as Basic Science Faculty Member of the Year and Dr. Michael Seaman, associate professor of emergency medicine/family medicine and director of the simulation lab, as Clinical Faculty Member of the Year. The class of 2016 also selected Rick Slaven, director of the center for simulation and training, as the Staff Member of the Year.


The Student of the Year Awards for the class of 2017 went to Michelle Osgood, of Easton, Maine, and Anthony Whitlow, of Middletown, Ohio. Osgood received her undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Husson University. Whitlow received his undergraduate degree in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.


The class of 2017 selected Dr. Clarence Colle, professor of microbiology and assistant dean of Academic Affairs as Basic Science Faculty Member of the Year and Dr. Howard S. Teitelbaum, professor and chair of preventive medicine, as Clinical Faculty Member of the Year. The Class of 2017 also selected Sue Cobb, standardized patient/patient model program coordinator, as Staff Member of the Year.


Student of the Year, Faculty Member of the Year and Staff Member of the Year awards are chosen by the students of LMU-DCOM.


Fourth-year osteopathic medical student Kathleen Clark of Greeneville, Tenn., was recognized for being selected as Student Doctor of the Year (SDOY) for LMU-DCOM. SDOY is a program of the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP). The primary focus of the award is to acknowledge students’ commitment to their school, their community and the osteopathic profession.
