The 44th annual Roho Fishing Tournament was held at the Beach Island Marina and Resort on Norris Lake on May 3 and 4. There were approximately 6,300 tickets sold. Eddie Beeler, Rusty Peace and Jeff Higdon were the top sellers amongst Roho members.

“The weather for the Roho Fishing Tournament was perfect,” said representatives of the club. “All fish categories were filled, and it was a great weekend for the families.”

The Roho fishing tournament is the only fundraising event held by the local civic club. All of the proceeds from the ticket sales are used to sponsor the Christmas Shopping Spree for children in the area who have been selected by teachers as needing help in order to have gifts for Christmas.

With the initial income from this year’s tournament, along with the outstanding support from area citizens and merchants, the Rohos are looking forward to another great shopping spree.

In 2013, a total of $42,000 was spent on the children — $110 for clothing for each child and $40 each for toys. In addition, each child was given a pair of athletic shoes donated by Walmart of Middlesboro. There were 271 children who shopped in the local Walmart before being treated to lunch and a visit from Santa.

The Roho club showed appreciation to all the supporters who make the fishing tournament and shopping spree possible.
