NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Steve Gulley is back to his roots with his new single and album ‘Family, friends & Fellowship’ on Rural Rhythm Records. The Gulley family name enjoys a rich musical heritage that reaches across three generations with strong roots in gospel music. It starts with long time radio personality Don Gulley who was a founding member of the bluegrass group the Pinnacle Mountain Boys. Steve Gulley performed for many years with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, was a founding member of bluegrass supergroups Mountain Heart and Grasstowne, was a regular featured performer at Renfro Valley and now performs with Dale Ann Bradley. Finally Steve’s son, Brad Gulley, is an emerging solo artist in bluegrass and roots music who previously fronted Cumberland River.
When Steve first started putting together the songs for Family, friends & Fellowship, he quickly realized why he had felt the call to do this recording. So much of the music that he kept coming back to during the selection process was the music of his youth and songs with messages that helped strengthen his faith and make his spiritual walk so much more meaningful. As Steve recalls, “Having come to know the Lord at an early age and having been brought up in a musical and Christian home, songs of faith were at the very fiber of our family unit and individual being. The old “red book” Baptist hymnal was a staple in our little mountain church house and is filled with some of my very favorite songs of all time.” You’ll find some of those on this album as well as some new original tunes all done in bluegrass, country - flavored and modern acoustic arrangements.
Joining Steve on his album is an incredible list of family and friend all-Star performers and musicians who were hand-picked to help make the songs and their message come to life in the most special way possible. Guest performers on this album include Doyle Lawson, Joe Mullins, Dale Ann Bradley, Rickey Wasson, Kenny & Amanda Smith, Les Butler, Don Gulley, Vic Graves, Debbie Gulley, Linda Gulley and Brad Gulley. They are backed by an impressive list of musicians including Adam Steffey, Tim Stafford, Ron Stewart, Mark Fain, Phil Leadbetter, Alan Bibey, Jason Burleson, Brandon Godman, Stuart Wyrick, Scott Powers, Bryan Turner, Gary Robinson Jr. and Mark Laws.
“My goal for this album is to share my spiritual journey through music that will hopefully make the listener think, reflect, reminisce and rejoice all while lifting their spirits and warming their soul” said Steve Gulley.
