The holiday season can be a tough time for families in need. Masters of Sciences students at LMU saw the need in the Appalachian community and wanted to help.

These post-baccalaureate students will be collecting non-perishable dried or canned food for the needy this Thanksgiving season. Until Nov. 18, there will be a box for monetary or food donations on the second floor of the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine building on campus.

“The community here has definitely welcomed us as new students to LMU as well as new members of the community. They need our help and as LMU students we like to contribute to the community,” said LMU student Eden Hamayoun.

At the end of the food drive students will categorize and assemble the donations into over 100 boxes to give to needy families throughout the Tri-State area. Servolution, a local religious community organization, will help to determine which families are most receiving of the food donations.

The food boxes will be distributed throughout Thanksgiving week. Any extra food from the food drive will be donated to Servolution’s year-round food bank.
