The Bell County Fiscal Court approved an amended fee budget for the clerk’s office during their meeting on Tuesday. The budget had to be amended because the county recently received a new clerk, following the abrupt retirement of former clerk Becky Blevins.

“The clerk’s office is a busy office,” said Judge-Executive Albey Brock. It does a lot of things other than just tag vehicles and record deeds.”

The panel also had to approve amended annual order setting the maximum amount for deputies and assistants for the Bell County Clerk.

The board accepted checks in the amount of $91,954.82 from Sheriff Bruce Bennett during the meeting. The majority of the money came from the fee account ($28,906.86) and unmined coal ($33,329.70).

The fiscal court also made several hires during the meeting as well. David Shell was hired as a part-time deputy jailer at $7.25 per hour at the Bell County Jail. Tyler Lee and Jacob Johnson were hired as seasonal workers for the Bell County Road Department at $7.25 per hour.

Jess Bow and Matthew Hobbs were both hired for Bell County EMS. Bow was hired as a part-time paramedic at $9.50 per hour, and Hobbs was hired as a part-time EMT at $7.25 per hour.

Other business taken care of during the meeting included:

• Accept sheriff’s claim sheet for fee account for previous month;

• Give judge permission to advertise for bids on concrete, stone, tires, culverts, diesel and asphalt;

• Accept Betty Hoskins Lane and Dave Lane into the Bell County Road System in District 5;

• Accept checks from Rob Lincks, clerk.
