Bell County residents gathered for a Meet the Magistrates event Thursday at the Bell Theater.

Only 15 of 37 candidates participated from the five magisterial districts. Several others were unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts.

District 1 participants included Elwood Robbins, James Hoskins, Doug Hoskins and Wade Hoskins.

District 2 participants included Ralph Smith, Brenda Brock, Hobert Whitehead, Charles Simpson and Lisa Nelson.

The lone District 3 participant was Donnie Sparks.

The District 4 participant was Walt Taylor.

District 5 participants included Jason Partin, Greg Hendrickson, Terry Bailey and Chris Frazier.

Host Brian O’Brien mentioned recent rezoning could affect voters in District 1 and District 5. The rezoning was based on census data which required the county to change some boundaries of the magistraterial districts for equalization of representation based on population shifts.

“When you step into the political arena, it’s not always easy to deal with. I know that sometimes you make friends and sometimes you don’t,” said O’Brien.

During the event, candidates were asked to give their party affiliation, platform and why they would be the best person to hold the office.

Commonalities stated by the candidates of all districts included availability to constituents and their lifelong dedication to Bell County.
