FRANKFORT — Phase one of a three-phase asphalt resurfacing project will begin today at the K7 74/KY 2079 intersection along Cumberland Avenue in Middlesboro, closing the intersection at 3 p.m. through Aug. 7. Work will proceed on a 24/7 schedule until completion due to a asphalt resurfacing operation.
During this closure, KY 2079 traffic will be detoured from Lothbury Avenue and 18th Street and KY 74 traffic will be detoured from 18th Street and 20th Street. Detour signs will be in place.
Phase two of the asphalt operations will begin Aug. 1 through Aug. 4, leading to lane closures from mile point 13.333 to mile point 14.214 (Yellow Creek Canal Bridge).
Phase three of the asphalt operations begin Sept. 1 through Sept. 8, leading to lane closures from mile point 14.214 (Yellow Creek Canal Bridge) to U.S. 25E.
Sidewalk ramp rehabs (various locations downtown Middlesboro on KY 74) will begin on Aug. 11 through Sept. 15, leading to intermittent lane closures.
Drivers are urged to use caution at these locations and be mindful of stopped or slowed traffic and repair crews as work continues.
