Native R. L. Longworth has returned home to Bell County after years of living in California “planting churches.”

“I love the area, I was raised here and I know a lot about Middlesboro,” said Longworth. “I moved to California in 1962 to plant some churches and I have been out there every since.”

Longworth will be at the Bell County Museum today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a book signing. Books will be available for purchase. Homemade appetizers and desserts will be served and Longworth will be available to speak about his book, his magazine and his hometown.

“It has to deal with Middlesboro from 1936 up to 1955 when the town was voted dry,” explained Longwroth. “

Approximately two years ago Longworth began a magazine, Southern Life, about the area. The storyline that began in this magazine is finished in his book “The Color of Roses.”

Longworth, who has a history in publishing, published the book himself. The book will be available online at Amazon.com for those who cannot attend tonight’s event.
