Bell County School officials squashed the rampant rumors of a further delay in the school schedule at Tuesday night’s regularly-scheduled board meeting.
Bell County Schools are scheduled to start their school year on Tuesday — weeks after many nearby school systems began classes. The delay in the schedule is a result of ongoing construction for renovations at Bell County High School, Bell Central School Center and Yellow Creek School Center.
Board members discussed the progress and upcoming deadline at the beginning of the meeting. All members were in agreement that the most important thing was for the school to be safe for the children and the concern was that construction debris would not be cleaned up in time.
Title I Director Jeff Saylor has been working closely with the projects and assured the board the debris would be taken care of and the school would be safe.
“They’re gonna be clean and the main thing, safe,” said Saylor.
After confirming there would not be a delay in the school year, board members voted to approve several pay applications, direct purchase orders and change orders related to the numerous renovations as well as awarding an agreement to the special inspection company who had the lowest bid.
