Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a Knox County teen who was killed Saturday night when an ambulance struck him as he was riding his bicycle.
According to a press release, at approximately 9:55 p.m. on Saturday, KSP Post 10 was notified by the Knox County 911 center that an ambulance had been involved in a collision on U.S. 25E at Lynn Camp.
Preliminary investigation by the KSP Accident Reconstruction Team indicates that the Knox County ambulance was traveling north on U.S. 25E en route to the hospital with a patient.
The ambulance dropped off the roadway and struck three juveniles who were riding their bicycles in the median of U.S. 25E.
One of the juveniles was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County coroner. The other two juveniles were taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin for treatment of their injuries.
Post 10 Accident Reconstruction members Troopers Kenny Sergent and Michael Cornett are continuing the investigation into the collision. Det. Jason York is in charge of the death investigation.
The name of the victim has not been released.
