HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will host the Clinch-Powell Educational Cooperative Multi-County In-Service Training in the Tex Turner Arena on its main campus in Harrogate, Tenn. on Friday.
Teachers and administrators from six county school districts, including Campbell, Claiborne, Hancock, Grainger, Scott and Union, will hear from Gov. Bill Haslam before Battelle for Kids Executive Director Jim Mahoney makes the keynote presentation, The Power of Collaboration. Tennessee Deputy Commissioner of Education Kathleen Airhart and Assistant Commissioner Joey Hassel will bring Tennessee Department of Education updates and a presentation on Response to Intervention (RTI) for all grade levels.
In the afternoon the educators will break into smaller groups for specialized training sessions covering a number of curricular and professional development topics. A number of LMU Carter and Moyers School of Education faculty members will present during afternoon sessions. LMU and the Clinch-Powell Educational Cooperative have established a close collaboration and work together to enhance education in the region at all levels.
With more than 35 years of experience serving as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, teacher and adjunct professor at several Ohio universities, Dr. Mahoney joined Battelle for Kids as executive director in 2001.
Under his leadership, the organization has partnered with state departments of education, some of the country’s largest school districts and national foundations to implement successful education improvement initiatives in more than 20 states and Hong Kong.
Dr. Mahoney is a well-known speaker, making presentations throughout the United States, Canada and China. He also coauthored the book, Data-Driven Decisions and School Leadership: Best Practices for School Improvement. He is the author of several articles on education in state and national publications.
