New gym owner Judy Seals has spent the past several months trying to empower women from the Tri-State area at her women’s-only gym In Shape Fitness and Tanning located in the Old Town Shopping Center in Tazewell, Tenn.
Seals has listened to her gym members and while she currently offers kick boxing, yoga, Zumba and various other cardio-infused classes, that is not enough for her members — they say they want more, so more they will get, according to Seals.
The In Shape Fitness Challenge is set to begin Thursday and individuals or teams of three to five can come by anytime during the day to sign up. The sign up fee is $20 with membership and is a one-time fee that includes a free T-shirt and a free class of participant’s choice. Participants need not worry if they are inexperienced at the gym, Seals assures help will be available at all times.
A pep rally kick off for the event will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and will include tips and advice from a personal trainer.
“As women we often intimidated of gyms because of the machines and the inability to use them,” explained Seals. “There will be a person on site at all times to walk you through the process of each machine.”
The members who lose the most weight will receive cash prizes at the end of the 15-week Biggest Loser type challenge — which purposefully coincides with the holidays.
“Who doesn’t need extra spending cash around the holidays,” asked Seals. “Make this holiday one you don’t mind haven pictures taken.”
In addition to the cash prize at the end of the challenge for members, there will be weekly winners who will walk away with various types of beauty supplies, gift cards and surprise goody bags and a monthly team winner who will receive 10 visits with one of the gyms personal trainers. To win each week, participants come by at their convenience every Thursday to weigh in and get measured and the winner will be announced Thursday night. The winner does not have to be present to win and will be notified of their prize.
This challenge is not the only new event Seals has planned for her members, she is also planning a women’s expo to take place Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. after the Fitness Challenge begins.
