Legendary bluegrass artist Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys open the 2014-2015 Center Stage LIVE! performing arts season on Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
The concert performance is one of five new shows presented by Lake Cumberland Performing Arts in partnership with the center. This season’s theme is “A World of Entertainment,” featuring some of the best performers in bluegrass and rhythm and blues, award-winning acrobatics, and dramatic productions.
“We are excited to welcome back Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys to Center Stage for another great concert performance,” said Dianna Winstead, associate director of arts, culture, and events at The Center. “Dr. Stanley is an American treasure and an international icon known worldwide for his traditional bluegrass music and classic hits.”
Other Center Stage LIVE! performances include the Golden Dragon Acrobats, recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premier Chinese acrobatic touring company of today, Oct. 21; “A Christmas Carol,” based on Charles Jones’ adaptation of the holiday classic, Dec. 4; rhythm and blues and soul performer Percy Sledge, best known for his signature song, “When a Man Loves a Woman,” Feb. 27; and Montana Repertory Theatre’s “The Great Gatsby,” a dramatic production of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, March 31.
“This year, The Center for Rural Development was selected as a top performing arts site in Kentucky by readers of Kentucky Living magazine,” said Elizabeth Burton, spokesperson for The Center. “This designation is a reflection of The Center’s state-of-the-art facility and high-caliber shows. We offer some of the most affordable ticket prices for the same shows offered at larger venues. We believe that strong cultural and performing arts programming helps to create vibrant communities for residents and non-residents alike.”
All Center Stage LIVE! performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are held in the theatre at The Center for Rural Development, located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at traffic light 15) in Somerset.
