What started out as being a wreck investigation turned into a DUI charge on Monday.
Jerry Wayne Gambrel, 47, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence after being involved in a single-vehicle wreck.
According to the collision report, Gambrel was traveling eastbound on White Mountain Road when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the opposite lane and impacted a ditch and dirt embankment. The report states the car did a complete 180-degree turn and flipped on its driver’s side.
According to Bell County Volunteer Fire Department Public Relations Officer Bucky Shelby, the fire department used a windshield cutting tool to remove the windshield from the vehicle, which the driver was extricated through.
The arrest citation states Gambrel had glossy eyes, pinpointed pupils and slurred speech.
Gambrel was transported to Pineville Community Hospital by Bell County EMS where he was treated for his injuries.
Bell County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Joel Quillen is in charge of the investigation.
Quillen cited Gambrel to court on the DUI charge.
The Bell County Rescue Squad also assisted on the scene.
