The east Kentucky economy is depressed as the coal industry has plummeted for this section of the state. A better economy is dependent on accessibility. We do have some better roads than we did in the sixties. I appreciate route 23 and 645 over into Inez. I wish we had these roads when I was a teenager but so glad we have them today.

The Mountain Parkway two lane sections need to be widened to four lanes. Where were our Governor, Congressman and Senators when money was pouring out of the mountains? They didn’t care or the Mountain Parkway would have been widened. Don’t get teary eyed inspired because our governor and Congressman Rogers have knee jerked a couple of quickie ideas to stimulate the economy.

Where will the money come from now? Oh, I just remembered the toll booths where we stopped four times and tossed in our money. I suspect they have those booths in the basement of the capital somewhere. They are probably in the same room where they stored all the great ideas years ago to help our region of the state. Somebody in Frankfort is probably planning on bringing them out. Don’t count on the great ideas to come first.
