KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Lincoln Memorial University senior striker Mario Pinto has been selected to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Southeast Region second team, officials with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Thursday.
Pinto was one of 16 players from the South Atlantic Conference named NSCAA All-Southeast Region and one of five comprising the second team. A total of 33 student-athletes representing the SAC, the Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas earned All-Southeast Region accolades.
Pinto — a 2013 All-SAC First Team selection — paced the Railsplitters offensively with 15 goals, 34 points, 91 shots and 42 shots on goal this season, ranking among the top three in the league in each of those categories. The Uberlandia, Brazil native appeared in 18 contests this season and logged 1,484 minutes, matching a team high with four assists over that span. Pinto finished tied for fourth in the conference with three game-winning goals.
The 2012 South Atlantic Conference and Daktronics Region Player of the Year registered at least one point in 11 of his 18 appearances on the pitch including a stretch of five-straight to open the 2013 campaign. Pinto posted a hat trick in LMU’s 4-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene on October 17 and added three other two-goal outings.
On Nov. 5, Pinto scored the final goal of historic career with Railsplitters, striking in the 11th minute of LMU’s win over Coker in the quarterfinals of the Food Lion SAC Championship. With that goal, the 2012 Daktronics First Team All-American catapulted into sole possession of Lincoln Memorial University’s career record for goals scored.
Pinto capped his unprecedented three-year stay at Lincoln Memorial with 49 goals — one better than the previous mark shared by John Payette and Frederico Moojen — while ranking among the top 10 in nine other career offensive categories.
